Army Birthday Parade in Lawton canceled due to security concerns amid planned protests

Lawton, OK – In a joint statement released by the City of Lawton and the U.S. Army Fort Sill, officials announced the cancellation of this year’s Army Birthday Parade, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025.

The decision follows careful coordination between the City of Lawton, the Lawton Police Department, and Fort Sill leadership, citing credible security threats tied to planned protests.

The parade has been a longstanding tradition, celebrating the U.S. Army’s legacy and honoring the deep connection between Fort Sill and the Lawton community.

While the decision to cancel was not made lightly, officials emphasized that the safety of citizens and service members remains the top priority.

“The strength of the Lawton-Fort Sill bond is built on trust, resilience, and shared purpose—and that remains as strong as ever,” the statement read. “We stand together in the belief that community celebration should never come at the cost of community safety.”

City and military leaders thanked the public for their understanding, resilience, and continued support during this time.
