Lawton, OK – The Lawton Fire Department is investigating alongside police after firefighters discovered a deceased individual while responding to a grassfire Monday morning.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. on October 19, fire crews responded to a reported grassfire near SW 11th Street and SW Bishop Road in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control within approximately 10 minutes. During the response, crews discovered a deceased individual in the area.
The Lawton Police Department was called to the scene to assist the Lawton Fire Marshal’s Office with a joint investigation.
Authorities said the individual’s identity had not been confirmed at the time of the announcement. The circumstances surrounding the death also remain under investigation.
Officials have not released further details about the deceased individual or whether the death is believed to be connected to the grassfire.
