Lawton Police Department responds to I-44 traffic accident, announces roadway reopens after overnight cleanup

Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department announced that a section of Interstate 44 has reopened after an overnight closure caused by a traffic accident near the Cache Road exit.

According to police, the affected eastbound lanes on the I-44 tri-level interchange were closed while the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) cleaned and repaired the roadway.

Before the reopening, motorists were directed to use Rogers Lane to access I-44, while the eastbound Gore Boulevard on-ramp remained closed. Drivers were also able to access the interstate from Second Street, Cache Road and Rogers Lane during the closure.

In an update shared overnight, the department confirmed that the roadway had been reopened and thanked the public for its patience and cooperation while crews worked to safely restore traffic.

Police also reminded motorists to reduce their speed near emergency scenes and remain alert when traveling through areas where first responders and road crews are working.

The Lawton Police Department said it will continue providing updates on significant traffic incidents and road closures through its official channels.
