Oklahoma — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred May 2 in Lawton, according to officials.
The Lawton Police Department requested OSBI assistance after officers responded at approximately 10:34 a.m. to the 500 block of Monroe Avenue for a reported assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 33-year-old man at the residence.
Authorities said the man made verbal threats toward officers, prompting an extended standoff. Negotiations continued for several hours as officers attempted to de-escalate the situation.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., the man exited the residence holding two firearms. Officials said officers gave commands for him to drop the weapons and continued negotiation efforts, but he did not comply. An officer-involved shooting then occurred.
Officers rendered aid at the scene before the man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
No other injuries were reported during the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and once completed, OSBI will submit its findings to the Comanche County District Attorney’s Office for review.
