Lawton, OK – Week nine of Lawton’s Citizens Academy highlighted the city’s ongoing engineering projects and planning efforts. Participants received a rolling tour showcasing several developments, including a preview of the future boardwalk and amphitheater at Lake Helen in Elmer Thomas Park.
The tour also included stops at the new Aquatics Center, McMahon Memorial Auditorium, and the Museum of the Great Plains, all of which are undergoing transformation through city-led engineering initiatives.
After the tour, attendees returned to City Hall to learn how the Planning Department influences Lawton’s growth through zoning, development, and long-range planning. City officials emphasized the department’s role in shaping the city’s future while balancing community needs and infrastructure development.
The Lawton Area Transit System (LATS) assisted by providing transportation and sharing information about their routes, fares, and services, helping participants gain a deeper understanding of the city’s public transit network. The Citizens Academy program continues to offer residents an inside look at the projects and departments that shape Lawton.
