Revitalization project launched in Ward 7 with focus on community and elderly residents

Lawton, OK – Councilwoman Sherene Williams launched the first phase of a revitalization project in Ward 7, fulfilling a campaign promise to prioritize community beautification and support residents in need.

The initiative focused on elderly residents who were unable to maintain their homes due to financial or physical limitations. The first homes selected were those of residents who reached out to Williams or Mrs. Addie Smith, ensuring help was directed to those most in need.

Volunteers played a central role in the project, with support from a local behavioral center, community members including Dollie Cook, Wyonna Alberty, and Jerry Boone, and former Councilman Dwight Tanner. Volunteers assisted with tasks such as painting window shutters. The effort was funded through local donations, with contributions managed by Smith, and additional support continues to be welcomed.

The project underscored the impact of community collaboration, showing how neighbors, organizations, and city leaders can work together to strengthen the neighborhood. Plans are already in place to continue the initiative next year, with additional homes and yards in Ward 7 scheduled for improvements.

By combining volunteer support with targeted assistance for residents, the project aims to enhance the neighborhood’s appearance, foster community pride, and ensure Ward 7 remains a welcoming and vibrant part of Lawton.
