Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that Troop C sponsored a local family and fellow first responder for Christmas this year. The recipient was Brad Lewallen and his family, who were affected by a serious accident earlier in the year.
According to the patrol, Lewallen, a firefighter with the Braggs Fire Department at Camp Gruber Army Base and a volunteer firefighter with the Keys Fire Department, was injured in a fireworks explosion on July 3 in Tuskahoma.
He sustained burns covering 70% of his body, with 50% classified as third-degree or worse. Lewallen has undergone multiple surgeries and remains in recovery.
Troop C provided gifts and financial support for Lewallen’s children to help ease the family’s financial burden during the holiday season and bring some cheer amid a challenging year. Officials said the gesture reflects the community’s support for first responders and their families.
