Oklahoma sends additional resources to aid New Mexico and Texas flood recovery

Oklahoma – Governor Kevin Stitt and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) deployed additional resources to support New Mexico and Texas following severe flooding in both states.

To assist with recovery efforts in New Mexico, Oklahoma sent a 10-person Support Team to the New Mexico State Emergency Operations Center. The team consisted of personnel from OEM, the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security, Oklahoma City Fire Department, and Tulsa Police Department.

In Texas, two more Type III swift water rescue teams from Oklahoma Task Force 1 (OKTF-1), based in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, joined four previously deployed teams, including Human Remains Detection K-9 units, in responding to the hardest-hit areas.

These deployments were made under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a nationwide mutual aid system that facilitates interstate cooperation by allowing states to share personnel, equipment, and resources during disasters.

The requests for assistance came from the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

Governor Stitt emphasized Oklahoma’s commitment to supporting neighboring states in times of crisis, stating, “Oklahomans know what it means to stand beside our fellow Americans in times of need. We will continue to serve our neighbors with strength and compassion.”

OEM Director Annie Mack Vest highlighted the reciprocal nature of mutual aid, noting, “Other states came to our aid in Oklahoma last spring when tornadoes struck multiple communities, and we are proud to have so many responders ready to do the same for our neighboring states.”

OEM continues to monitor conditions and remains prepared to deploy further assistance if needed.
