Oklahoma Governor Appoints New Chief of Staff, Marking Second Change in Five Months

Lawton, OK – Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced Monday that Tom Newell will serve as his new chief of staff, following the departure of Grayson Walker, who held the position for only five months. Walker, who was appointed to the role in July, is stepping down to pursue opportunities in the private sector.

Newell, a seasoned public servant, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016 and has held leadership positions in several organizations focused on public policy, education, and religious advocacy. He was also vice president of the Center for Culture and Family at the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, a conservative think tank that plays a prominent role in state legislative politics.

Governor Stitt praised Newell’s commitment to Oklahoma’s values and his extensive background in policy and community service. In a statement, Stitt said, “Tom’s passion for serving others, commitment to our values, and his extensive policy expertise make him the perfect person to help guide my administration into this next chapter.”

Newell’s background extends beyond politics. He has worked as a pastor and has been actively involved in organizations focused on religion, family issues, and government accountability. His leadership experience and strong ties to conservative causes in the state were key factors in his selection.

“I am honored to join Gov. Stitt’s team as chief of staff,” Newell said in his statement. “The governor has demonstrated unwavering leadership in making Oklahoma a top ten state for families, freedom, and opportunity. I look forward to working alongside him and our entire staff to deliver on his vision for Oklahoma.”

Newell holds an undergraduate degree in Bible and pastoral ministries from Mid-America Christian University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Liberty University.

The appointment marks the second leadership change in Governor Stitt’s office in less than six months, highlighting the governor’s evolving team as he continues to pursue his policy goals for the state. Newell will take over as chief of staff during a crucial period in Stitt’s administration, with a focus on strengthening Oklahoma’s position as a leader in family policies, education reform, and economic opportunity.
