Officer-Involved Shooting Follows High-Speed Chase in Grady County

Lawton, OK — An officer-involved shooting occurred Monday afternoon following a high-speed chase through rural Grady County. The suspect involved in the pursuit was shot by law enforcement officers and airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

The incident began when authorities attempted to stop a vehicle that was reportedly driving erratically in the area. The driver, whose identity has not been released, fled from officers, prompting a high-speed chase through rural roads southwest of Dibble, a small town located just south of Norman.

According to local law enforcement sources, the chase came to an end in a remote area near County Road 1400, where the suspect was confronted by officers. It was during this confrontation that shots were fired, striking the suspect. The suspect was immediately airlifted by helicopter to an area hospital.

Details about the nature of the confrontation and what led to the shooting remain unclear as law enforcement agencies, including the Grady County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, investigate the incident. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has been called in to handle the case, a standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The suspect’s current condition has not been released, though officials confirmed that medical personnel were able to stabilize the individual before they were airlifted.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect was armed or if the shooting was related to the suspect’s actions during the chase. Local law enforcement has urged the public to refrain from speculating until the investigation is complete.

This is a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
