ODOT designates SWODA Board as Oklahoma’s first regional transportation planning organization

Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has officially designated the South Western Oklahoma Development Authority Board of Trustees as the first regional transportation planning organization in the state.

This major milestone acknowledges the Southwest Oklahoma Regional Transportation Planning Organization for its commitment to improving transportation and infrastructure across 16 counties in Southwest Oklahoma.

This designation also underscores ODOT’s dedication to fostering regional transportation planning and engaging the public in non-metropolitan areas.

As the newly designated regional transportation planning organization, SORTPO will oversee transportation planning efforts in Beckham, Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Custer, Grady, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Jefferson, Kiowa, McClain, Roger Mills, Stephens, Tillman, and Washita counties. With this responsibility, SORTPO will be instrumental in identifying and prioritizing essential transportation improvements for the region.

The designation enables SORTPO to develop and maintain both long-term and short-term regional transportation plans, ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing local infrastructure needs.

It also enhances the opportunity for public input and engagement in upcoming transportation projects, strengthening community involvement in planning processes.

This step is a testament to the ongoing efforts of ODOT and SORTPO to provide better mobility and transportation solutions for Southwest Oklahoma residents.
