Lawton, OK – All lanes of Interstate 44 have reopened following a major crash near the Medicine Park exit that involved an Elgin school bus, according to the Lawton Police Department.
Authorities initially responded to the crash late Sunday as multiple emergency responders were dispatched to the area. Lawton police officers blocked northbound traffic on I-44 at Roger’s Lane while crews worked the scene.
Drivers traveling northbound on I-44 were temporarily required to exit east or west on Roger’s Lane. Officials also reported that southbound lanes of I-44 were shut down at the Elgin exit during the response.
By about 5:45 p.m., northbound I-44 reopened to one lane of travel as emergency crews continued working at the scene. Motorists were asked to remain cautious and watch for responders in the area.
At approximately 8:05 p.m., the Oklahoma Department of Transportation confirmed that all lanes of I-44 had reopened to traffic.
Authorities had earlier advised drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes while crews responded to the crash. Additional details about the incident were not immediately released.
