Lawton Police Department thanks community after officers take part in Special Olympics plunge

Lawton, OK – The Lawton Police Department expressed gratitude to the Lawton–Fort Sill community after officers and residents participated in a fundraising plunge event benefiting Special Olympics.

The event took place Saturday, where participants braved cold water to raise money for the organization and the athletes it serves. According to the department, several officers joined community members in taking the plunge while supporters gathered and contributed donations.

While the air temperature was reported to be in the 80s, officials said the water temperature told a much different story for those who jumped in.

The department thanked everyone who participated and donated, noting that the community’s support made the event possible. Officials said every dollar raised during the event will go directly to Special Olympics and the programs that support its athletes.

Lawton police also highlighted the importance of community involvement, saying events like this help bring residents and officers together for a meaningful cause.

The department encouraged anyone who attended the event to share photos in the comments on its social media page.

Officials said the support from the Lawton–Fort Sill community continues to make a difference and helps strengthen partnerships between residents and local law enforcement.
