Lawton, OK — City officials issued a warning Friday evening that travel in Lawton is hazardous and strongly discouraged as snow-covered roads and slick conditions continue to impact the area.
The City of Lawton posted an alert on social media stating that city streets, arterial roads, and state highways remain snow-covered, and that numerous vehicles have already become stuck. The city also reported that street crews are actively working to clear roads, with seven trucks currently plowing and applying sand and salt to main routes.
Officials asked drivers to stay at least 200 feet behind plows and other maintenance vehicles, noting that crews are dispensing materials that can create visibility and safety hazards for nearby motorists.
Residents were urged to stay home if possible. For those who must travel, the city recommended sticking to arterial roads and reducing speed to account for slick conditions. The city emphasized that safety should be the priority during the ongoing winter weather.
No timeline was provided for when roads might fully clear, and officials said they would continue to monitor conditions and update the public as needed.
