Lawton celebrates CASA’s first adoption of the year during visit to City Hall with United Way and Mayor Booker

Lawton, OK – According to the officials, the City Hall was filled with excitement as United Way of Southwest Oklahoma’s President and CEO, Mark Woommavovah, brought “Xavier” to meet Lawton’s Mayor Stan Booker and “Jamal” in celebration of a special moment. Xavier is the first “buddy” to be adopted this year by CASA of Southwest Oklahoma, an organization dedicated to advocating for children in foster care.

The cutouts, representing children in foster care, are displayed publicly once they are adopted, helping raise awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is observed every April. The cutouts serve as a reminder of the ongoing work of CASA, which focuses on advocating for children in need of a voice.

“We were thrilled to have Xavier visit City Hall and to share in this special moment,” said Mayor Booker. The adoption of Xavier highlights the meaningful work being done in the community, and the visit emphasized the continued support for fostering awareness and advocating for children in need.

The City of Lawton continues to show its support for CASA and other local initiatives dedicated to improving the lives of children in Southwest Oklahoma. The community’s collaboration is key to creating positive outcomes for children in foster care, and events like today’s visit are a reminder of the collective effort needed to ensure every child has the opportunity for a brighter future.
