Governor Stitt makes changes to Oklahoma State Board of Education following NAEP score concerns

Oklahoma – Governor Kevin Stitt has named three new members to the Oklahoma State Board of Education (OSBE), following months of controversy at the Oklahoma State Department of Education and underwhelming results from the annual National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

“Nothing is more important than ensuring Oklahoma kids have the best education possible,” Governor Stitt said. “After months of headlines followed by disappointing NAEP scores this month, it’s clear that our education infrastructure has fallen prey to needless political drama. If we want to be the best state for business, we need to make sure our kids have a path to success. It’s time for some fresh eyes and a renewed focus on our top ten goals.”

The newly appointed board members include Ryan Deatherage of Kingfisher, Michael Tinney of Norman, and Chris VanDenhende of Tulsa. Sarah Lepak and Zach Archer will continue in their roles on the board, ensuring a blend of continuity and fresh perspectives.

Governor Stitt expressed gratitude to all board members for their dedication and service to the state of Oklahoma. The appointments are now subject to Senate approval.

The changes come as part of a broader effort to strengthen Oklahoma’s education system and improve student outcomes, in line with the Governor’s long-term vision to ensure success for future generations.
