Comanche County Sheriff’s Department Issues Scam Alert to Public

Lawton, OK – The Comanche County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning to residents regarding a new scam that is currently making the rounds. According to reports, scammers are using a spoofed phone number to impersonate sheriff’s department officials and trick people into giving up personal and financial information.

The scammers reportedly claim that individuals have missed jury duty or have an outstanding warrant for their arrest, threatening them with fines that must be paid immediately. This tactic, designed to instill fear, pressures victims into complying with the scammer’s demands.

In response to the growing number of complaints, the Sheriff’s Department has reassured the public that they will never make phone calls requesting money. “We will never call you to ask for payment,” said a department spokesperson. “If you receive a call claiming to be from our office asking for money, it’s a scam.”

Authorities are advising residents to remain vigilant and to double-check the legitimacy of any unsolicited calls or messages, especially those involving financial transactions. “Always verify the source of any call or message you receive, especially if it’s asking for money,” the spokesperson added.

The Sheriff’s Department urges the community to help spread the word about these scams in an effort to prevent others from falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.
