City of Lawton reschedules Trash Off event to May 17, 2025, offering free disposal for residents

Lawton, OK – The City of Lawton, in collaboration with the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority, has announced that the annual Trash Off event will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, after being postponed due to inclement weather. Originally scheduled for April 26, the event will now run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the McMahon Memorial Auditorium.

Trash Off provides Lawton residents with an excellent opportunity to safely dispose of large, bulky, or environmentally hazardous items that should not be placed in regular trash bins. Residents are encouraged to bring a variety of items, including:

  • Batteries

  • Tires (no larger than truck size)

  • Scrap metal

  • Appliances

  • Fire extinguishers

  • Paint

  • Used oil

However, medical and hazardous waste, ammunition, compressed gas cylinders, tires with rims, and commercial waste will not be accepted.

Important details:

  • Free for Lawton residents: Proof of a Lawton address (government-issued ID, utility bill, or active military ID) is required.

  • Non-residents may participate for a $25 fee, payable by cash or check.

In addition to the Trash Off event, the Kids First Initiative continues with the Poster and Coloring Contests. The new deadline for contest submissions is May 17, 2025, at 12 p.m. at the McMahon Memorial Auditorium. All entries must be original artwork, created using crayons, markers, colored pencils, or colored sharpies. Participants should ensure the following details are included on the back of their artwork: student’s name, grade, school, and a parent or guardian’s phone number.

Residents are encouraged to take part in this community effort to keep Lawton clean and contribute to the success of the event.
