Lawton, OK – City of Lawton announced ongoing construction projects at Lake Lawtonka as part of efforts to improve park infrastructure ahead of the busy recreation season.
Officials said the Drainage Division is working to stabilize the shoreline west of the School House Slough boat ramp using rip-rap, or large boulders, to address years of erosion caused by waves and heavy rainfall.
At the same time, the Street Division is removing old asphalt and preparing the area for a new paved circle and access road around the park.
City officials noted that the boat ramp remains open and no major disruptions are expected. Both phases of the project are anticipated to be completed before mid-April.
A larger paving project at School House Slough is also planned for September 2026, with additional details expected to be released in the coming months.
