Oklahoma – Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt addressed the State Regents for Higher Education this week in Oklahoma City, highlighting recent accomplishments in the state’s public university system and outlining priorities for the future.
During his remarks, Stitt noted that 88 percent of degrees awarded in 2025 align with Oklahoma’s top workforce needs and highlighted research advancements at the University of Oklahoma in weather and radar, defense and aerospace, and cancer, as well as at Oklahoma State University in rural health, agriculture, and drone technology.
He emphasized the importance of connecting higher education programs to workforce demand to retain talent and support economic growth.
The governor also discussed initiatives to expand nursing programs, career and technical education pathways, and apprenticeship opportunities modeled on international systems, while calling for tenure reform and the development of a 90-hour bachelor’s degree pathway to accelerate workforce entry.
Stitt praised the public university system for enrollment growth and collaboration across institutions, noting ongoing efforts to expand undergraduate offerings in regional areas like Tulsa. He concluded by encouraging continued innovation in higher education to equip students with skills for high-demand careers and ensure Oklahoma remains competitive nationally.
