Oklahoma – Last week, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision on I-35 near SH-33 in Logan County, assisted by first responders.
Troopers determined that Jonathan Bush, 40, the driver of a box truck, struck a parked Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) truck positioned in a closed lane leading into an active work zone. The ODOT truck was unoccupied at the time.
The passenger in the box truck died as a result of the collision. Preliminary investigation indicates the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
Troopers emphasized that drowsy driving is extremely dangerous, slowing reaction time and impairing judgment, and can lead to microsleeps—brief moments of sleep that often occur without the driver being aware.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol noted that no ODOT workers were injured, despite being on foot in the work zone, and urged drivers to exercise caution and follow safety measures while passing through construction areas.
The investigation is ongoing, and the passenger’s identity will be released once family members are located and notified.
