Lawton, OK – The Lawton Public Library is offering free digital skills training to help residents enhance their technology knowledge, with classes scheduled for December 18 and 19. The initiative, sponsored by the Friends of the Lawton Public Library, aims to teach essential digital skills to those who are new to technology.
The classes are designed for individuals who may be unfamiliar with basic computer functions. Attendees will learn how to use web browsers, create and manage passwords, navigate mobile devices, and more. Library officials believe this training is crucial as technology continues to play an increasingly important role in daily life.
“Nowadays, a lot of jobs require people to fill out applications online,” said Garret Harris, a Library associate. “It’s also important for tasks like sending emails, sharing photos, or even communicating with friends and family. We’re trying to empower people to be more tech-savvy, so they don’t have to rely on others for these basic tasks.”
The library’s efforts are supported by a grant from AT&T, which has made it possible to offer additional digital literacy classes to the community. The grant allows the library to provide these services at no cost to participants, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or experience with technology, has access to the training.
The digital skills training is part of the library’s ongoing mission to support lifelong learning and improve the quality of life for Lawton residents. As more services, including job applications and communication tools, move online, the need for digital literacy has never been greater.
For more information on upcoming classes or to register for future events, community members are encouraged to visit the Lawton Public Library’s website or contact the library directly.
This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of digital skills in today’s society and provides a valuable resource for those who may otherwise struggle to navigate the increasingly digital world.
